Our Report: Menlo Ventures (Venture Capital Firm based out of SF) have closed on $1.35B in new capital, and will be using the fresh influx of funding to invest in early stage AI startups.
🔑 Key Points:
Of the $1.35B, a significant amount will be allocated to investing in early stage AI startups, with similar (and recent) investments including a $40M Series B investment in Finch, and $34M in Sana Labs.
This new funding increases Menlo's total raised to over $3.8B, after having multiple notable exits from unicorns across the enterprise, consumer and healthcare sectors.
Menlo have consistently shown a strong interest in AI, having invested in companies like Abnormal, Anthropic, Cleanlab, Pinecone, and Typeface (some of which were acquired by Google, Microsoft & Cisco).
Menlo Labs’ CEO stated the following when asked about the significant investments in AI “AI represents a seismic shift that will add trillions of dollars in value to the global economy, and Menlo will help write the next chapter.”

Google is expanding access to Bard to teens globally (previously only available to 18+), with the launch including safety features to protect young users, and features to assist teens in exploring interests, solving problems, and understanding complex subjects.
It offers unique tools like math problem-solving with step-by-step explanations and data visualization—including graphs and charts to help students understand simple concepts like how they should manage their time or money. Although educational institutions are yet to adopt AI en-masse, it’s likely that the proliferation of AI educational tools will catalyze adoption.
Meta has unveiled two innovative AI models, Emu Video which creates video clips from text and image inputs (think Stable Diffusion), and Emu Edit which offers advanced image manipulation capabilities (think Photoshop).
These models are currently in the research phase, and demonstrate huge potential for creators and artists—including those without artistics tendencies (me)—ultimately democratizing access to video editing tools and lowering barriers to entry.
Spotify is enhancing podcast and audiobook discovery by integrating Google Cloud's AI tools, aiming to refine content discovery and tailor personalized recommendations for users (if it’s anywhat as good as Discover Weekly, we’re in luck).
