🤫 Microsoft unveils Phi-2—their latest AI model

Microsoft has unveiled Phi-2, a small language model (SLM) that challenges the dominance of LLMs in the generative AI space. Phi-2 boasts 2.7B parameters and has demonstrated exceptional performance, even surpassing some models that are 25 times larger, in various benchmarks.

This achievement aligns with Microsoft's objective of creating SLMs with capabilities and performance comparable to much larger models, using strategic training choices and high-quality data: with reduced computational requirements to make it a cost-effective solution.

😮 TikTok actively trying to steal ChatGPT?

ByteDance (owners of TikTok) are reportedly using OpenAI's technology covertly to create its own competing AI model which has been dubbed Project Seed, by using OpenAI’s API extensively to train and evaluate Project Seed.

This breaches OpenAI's terms of service, which forbid using its model output to develop competing AI models, and internal documents and communications reveal awareness of these violations among employees, who discuss methods to obscure this misuse.

🤨 Grok plushie made before Musk’s Grok?

Grimes, the artist, has lent her voice to a character named "Grok" for Curio's new line of AI-enabled, screen-free plush toys. Interestingly, this Grok, which predates and is unrelated to Elon Musk's AI chatbot of the same name, focuses on playful interaction rather than the chatbot's approach of handling more provocative questions.

Curio's Grok trademarked before Musk's, is part of a range designed to replace screen time with interactive, educational play.
