Anthropic has published a new "constitution" for Claude, a detailed document outlining the values and behavioral guidelines that directly shape how its AI model is trained and how it interacts with users.
The constitution prioritizes four key properties in order: being broadly safe, broadly ethical, compliant with Anthropic's guidelines, and genuinely helpful, and Claude is trained to weigh decisions accordingly when values conflict.
Unlike its previous version (a simple list of principles), the new constitution explains the reasoning behind each guideline, which Anthropic says helps Claude generalize better across novel situations rather than mechanically following rigid rules.
Anthropic acknowledges that training models toward the constitution's ideals is an ongoing challenge and that Claude's actual behavior may not always align perfectly with its stated intentions, a gap it plans to document in public system cards.
As businesses increasingly deploy AI in customer support, sales, and internal operations, defining explicit values and behaviors for AI systems becomes a governance priority. Anthropic's approach offers a model for enterprises building or integrating AI: start by articulating why you want AI to act a certain way, not just what it should do. Companies that invest in this kind of intentional design will be better positioned to maintain trust, ensure compliance, and scale AI responsibly.

By Charlie Hills — Founder of Linked Agency
“The tool doesn't determine the value. The thinking does.”
Case Study
Siemens, a multinational industrial manufacturer, needed to sort internal social posts on Microsoft Viva Engage to surface tax-related updates for consultants.
Pattern: A GPT-based system autonomously classifies and summarizes each post, routing tax content to specialists while humans spot-check edge cases.
Why it matters: Tax consultants no longer waste hours manually scanning posts, they focus on high-value regulatory response work instead.
Metric: Classification dropped from manual hours to under 5 seconds per post, achieving 90% accuracy and freeing consultants to focus on critical updates in real time.
Steal this: Use ChatGPT to sort your Slack or email. Copy 20 messages into ChatGPT, ask it to flag major ones, then manually review its picks for a week.

AI News Story
Google has rolled out Personal Intelligence to AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, allowing them to opt in to connect Gmail and Google Photos to AI Mode in Search for tailored, context-aware results.
The feature uses Gemini 3 to scan connected apps and surface personalized recommendations based on past purchases, travel bookings, and photo memories. For example, AI Mode can pull flight details from Gmail and suggest weather-appropriate coats for an upcoming trip, or reference ice cream photos to recommend family-friendly parlors near a hotel.
Privacy controls remain opt in only, and Google states it does not train directly on user inboxes or photo libraries, on specific prompts and responses to improve functionality.
AI News Story
Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) has sent letters to OpenAI and six other AI companies demanding transparency about advertising plans in chatbots, warning that embedded ads "raise significant concerns for consumer protection, privacy, and the safety of young users."
OpenAI will begin testing ads for free ChatGPT users within weeks, surfacing "sponsored" products and services at the bottom of conversations. The company pledged not to show ads to users under 18 or during chats about health or politics, but Markey questioned whether OpenAI will still harvest that sensitive data to personalize future ads.
Markey warned that users' "emotional connection" to AI chatbots could allow companies to "prey on the very relationships their systems have fostered," calling for clearer disclosure rules as conversational interfaces blur the line between content and promotion.

Companies to Watch/Raising Now
Early-stage AI startups on our radar, before they’re everywhere.
• Harmattan AI
What they do: Builds autonomous decision-making systems for defense drones and unmanned military vehicles.
Why it matters: Just secured a $200M Series B led by Dassault Aviation, a strategic partner that signals production-ready tech, not prototypes. Defense contractors moving this quick means procurement cycles are shrinking.
Stage: Series B
Raising: $200M
Investors (if notable): Dassault Aviation, FirstMark
• Project Prometheus
What they do: Develops AI that learns from physical-world constraints, designed for aerospace, automotive, and chip manufacturing.
Why it matters: Raised $6.2B from Jeff Bezos in a single round. The bet is on AI that optimizes real-world production lines and hardware design, not chatbots. Bezos rarely writes checks this size outside Amazon.
Stage: Series Unknown
Raising: $6.2B
Investors (if notable): Jeff Bezos
