Anthropic's revised S-1A filing reveals the company believes it may soon achieve recursive self-improvement (RSI), the point at which AI becomes capable of autonomously improving its own capabilities. The disclosure, buried in updated risk factors, marks the first time a major AI lab has publicly acknowledged being this close to what many consider AI's most consequential threshold.
Anthropic stated its internal estimates indicate it "may imminently meet" its Responsible Scaling Policy's definition of "dramatically accelerated progress attributable to AI," though no current model has crossed this threshold yet.
The company admitted it has already used AI to develop models whose capability leaps it didn't recognize until after they occurred, raising questions about its ability to monitor acceleration in real time.
Anthropic is now considering updates to its safety policy to ensure humans remain in control of frontier model development, even if full autonomous self-improvement becomes technically possible.
For enterprise buyers evaluating AI vendors, this filing reframes the conversation around model governance and vendor transparency. RSI capability, if achieved, would fundamentally change how AI systems are developed, deployed, and regulated. Companies relying on Anthropic's models should monitor how the lab operationalizes its safety commitments and whether regulators respond with new disclosure requirements for frontier AI developers.

The change aims to streamline workflow inside the ChatGPT desktop app, letting users move from exploring ideas to building projects without switching tabs. Files, plugins, and web actions will all live in one place. Codex remains separate.
OpenAI also announced that both ChatGPT and Codex will now draw tokens from the same allowance pool. Most users won't notice, but heavy users may hit resets more often depending on model selection and usage patterns.
The company is testing the merged experience with select users before a broader rollout. Anthropic made a similar move in September when it combined Claude's chat and Cowork functions into one screen.
Why it matters: The tab merge simplifies an interface that had become cluttered with overlapping functions. For enterprise users managing multiple projects across Chat and Work, this could reduce friction and make it easier to track where work actually lives.
THE MONEY
The biggest tech deals aren't chasing models. They're locking down the physical layer. Marvell's $115B acquisition of Lumentum ranks among the largest tech deals ever, signaling that optical networking and custom silicon have become strategic assets worth paying premium multiples to control.
Deals to know:
Marvell/Lumentum (Acquisition, $115B enterprise value) -- All-stock deal creates end-to-end AI connectivity leader spanning chips to data centers. Nvidia holds stakes in both companies. Expected close: H1 2028.
Trajectory (Series A, $45M at $300M valuation) -- Automates model post-training for domain specialists without FDE teams. Customers include Harvey, Rogo, Nvidia. Investors: Sequoia, Nvidia, Bessemer Venture Partners, Bain Capital Ventures
Signal: Capital is bifurcating: mega-deals for infrastructure control, targeted bets on training efficiency. The winners will own the pipes and the process.
