Anthropic released Opus 5 on Friday, its newest flagship model that outperforms Fable 5 on multiple benchmarks while coming in cheaper and with fewer restrictions. The launch arrives just two months after Opus 4.8, completing the rapid rollout of Anthropic's 5-series models.
Opus 5 is free from the 30-day data retention policy that applies to Fable and Mythos, addressing privacy concerns that had kept some enterprise users from adopting those models.
Anthropic says safety classifiers will engage 85% less often on Opus 5 compared to Fable 5, reflecting a lighter-touch approach to content restrictions on the less capable model.
A new beta feature called Automatic Fallbacks routes blocked prompts to less powerful models instead of returning errors, giving API users functional responses when safeguards engage.
For enterprise teams weighing Claude deployments, Opus 5 changes the calculus. The combination of lower cost, fewer restrictions, and no mandatory data retention makes it the likely default for most production use cases. Organizations that passed on Fable due to privacy or content policy concerns now have a viable alternative that still tops benchmarks. The Automatic Fallbacks feature also signals Anthropic's shift toward minimizing disruption when safety guardrails activate.
The AI Report Podcast

The hardest part of adopting AI isn't finding tools, it's knowing which ones are actually worth using.

THE BUSINESS BRIEFING: SALES (powered by Upscaile)
SpendLab (mid-market AP technology, Amsterdam HQ) had a fragmented outbound motion bleeding 8 hours/week per rep on admin. Reps were bouncing between Cognism for data, Salesloft for engagement, and Salesforce for CRM. Data loss hit 20-30% on every transfer between systems. Open rates sat at 1.5% because nobody could see their domain health was tanked. They consolidated onto Amplemarket to unify data, engagement, signals, and deliverability in one platform.
Tool used: Amplemarket -- unified AI sales platform combining lead data, multichannel sequences, intent signals, and native CRM sync.
Result: $1M pipeline per BDR per month. 400% productivity lift in Q1 2026. Open rates jumped from 1.5% to 12% after fixing domain health. Daily call volume went from 15 to 50+ per rep. First meeting booked from an intent signal within 10 days of trial.
The lesson: Tool consolidation matters more than tool selection. SpendLab's previous stack technically worked, but the handoffs between systems ate hours and leaked data at every junction. The productivity lift came from eliminating the integration tax, not from any single feature.
Steal this: Map your outbound data flow this week. Count the systems a prospect touches between identification and first email. If it's more than two, you're losing data and time at every handoff. Consolidate before you optimize.
THE POLICY CORNER
South Korea's AI Basic Act now requires disclosure and labeling of all AI-generated content.
Companies developing or operating AI services in South Korea must notify users when generative AI is used and label AI-generated content. Businesses whose AI systems could significantly affect people's rights or safety must also conduct risk assessments and implement internal governance systems. The law applies regardless of company headquarters if you're serving South Korean users.
Deadline: In effect now. One-year grace period for full enforcement while authorities establish detailed guidelines.
Risk: Non-compliance exposes companies to regulatory action and exclusion from public procurement preferences. Uncertainty remains around thresholds for labeling requirements when AI content is human-edited.
Your move: Audit your AI-powered products and services this month. Document where generative AI is used, implement content labeling protocols, and flag any high-impact systems that may require formal risk assessment before the grace period ends.

The Money: Robotics bets swallow LLM-scale capital
Two of this week's largest AI rounds bypassed models entirely and poured multi-billion-dollar commitments into physical robotics. As software-only AI plays face margin compression and commoditization, serious capital is chasing companies that control atoms, not just tokens.
Deals to know:
Genesis AI (Series A, $500M at $3B valuation) -- Full-stack physical AI with proprietary tactile-sensing gloves, simulation engine, and GENE-26.5 foundation model. Went from $105M seed to $3B valuation in twelve months. Investors: Premji Invest (lead), HSG, Northzone
Atoms (Equity financing, $1.7B) -- Travis Kalanick's integrated industrial-automation play across food, mining, and transport. Rebranded holding company combining CloudKitchens and acquired assets into single equity structure. Investors: Andreessen Horowitz (lead), Uber, Bain Capital, Fifth Wall
Signal: Venture capital that once chased foundation models is now funding vertical integration in physical industries. Investors aren't pricing current revenue—they're pricing category ownership before competitors can replicate hardware-software moats.
