Welcome to AI Tool Report!

⚔️ Anthropic announces Claude 2.1 amidst the OpenAI chaos

Our Report: Anthropic has just released Claude 2.1, featuring an improved context window that vastly outperforms anything ChatGPT is capable of. Is this impeccable timing or a coincidence?

🔑 Key Points:

  • Claude 2.1, an improvement on its flagship large language model, competes with ChatGPT, and features an improved context window which has increased to 200,000 tokens, surpassing OpenAI's GPT-4's 128,000 tokens.

  • To put this in context, Claude is now able to handle “entire codebases, financial statements like S-1s, or even long literary works like The Iliad” in a single sitting. Impressive, right?

  • Additionally, Claude 2.1 demonstrates enhanced accuracy, reducing incorrect responses and hallucinations, and the model can now recognize when it lacks confidence in its answers and defers to external tools (like calculators) or web searches for better solutions.

🤨 Why you should care: If you’re accustomed to using LLMs like ChatGPT, Bard, and Claude, you’ll know that Claude often outperforms the others when handling large amounts of data. Pouncing on OpenAIs missteps, and announcing impressive features such as tool deference has primed them to capture significant market share.

💰 NVIDIA makes $18B in 1 quarter

NVIDIA has had another incredibly good quarter, primarily due to the growth of the company’s data center business which has grown by 279%, leaving a total profit for Q3, 2023 at $18.1B

They also announced a new GPU, the GH200, which has more memory than the current H100 and an additional Arm processor onboard. Whilst they continue to face export restrictions from the US and competition from AMD, the NVIDIA team seems optimistic (I would be too with that profit).

P.S. This marks a 207% year-on-year growth for NVIDIA.

🔫 UK implements AI hit squad replacing civil service workers

The UK government is creating an AI "hit squad" to shrink the size of the civil service and boost public sector productivity, by replacing monotonous, administrative tasks with AI & robots.

They’ve allocated £5M and a 30-person team to focus on welfare fraud, asylum claims, and NHS interface, with deputy PM Dowden touting AI as a "silver bullet" for efficiency. Some are worried about AI bias affecting welfare and asylum decisions—although many others see it as an innovative move in the right direction, perhaps in the vicinity of UBI.

🙊 OpenAI drops voice compatibility for everyone

OpenAI has made its ChatGPT voice feature, which allows users to ask ChatGPT questions using their voice and receive audible responses, available for free to all users after initially only making the feature available to Plus users in September.

This release comes amidst large-scale outages for ChatGPT users and the OpenAI drama. I wonder if it’s all connected?
