💥 Will Apple and Google unite?

Our Report: Following the announcement of Apple’s highly anticipated AI platform—Apple Intelligence—and its partnership with OpenAI (which will bring ChatGPT features to Apple devices), Apple is now reportedly set to announce a new partnership. This time, with Google.

🔑 Key Points:

• Apple is expected to announce this new, strategic partnership with Google in September when it officially launches Apple Intelligence, iOS 18, and its new iPhone 16 series.

• The partnership will integrate Google’s Gemini onto Apple devices, meaning Apple’s ecosystem will have three chatbots to complete specific AI tasks: Siri, ChatGPT, and Gemini.

• Apple is also in talks with Anthropic and Meta, although sources say that talks with Meta haven’t gone well after they previously slammed them for poor privacy practices and an inferior AI model.

🤔 Why you should care: Apple’s new AI features will only be available on iPhone 15 Pro or above, which could be a strategic move, by Apple, to encourage people to upgrade or switch to a newer model, in an attempt to boost sluggish iPhone revenue.

🚫 Cloudflare fights AI bots

Our Report: Cloud service provider, Cloudflare, has launched a new tool that stops bots from scraping data, from the websites it hosts, and using it to train AI models or for other malicious activity.

🔑 Key Points:

• The tool uses ML and finely-tuned bot detection models—that have analyzed AI bots and crawlers—to identify AI bots trying to evade detection by mimicking the behavior of website users.

• It will protect content owners from unauthorized AI scraping by dishonest bots that try to circumnavigate the robots.txt file, which tells bots which pages they can and can’t access.

• Eg. Over 600 news publications have blocked OpenAI’s bot from scraping their data without permission and using it to train its AI models, but reports claim it ignores robots.txt rules.

🤔 Why you should care: The launch of Cloudflares new tool comes at a time when big tech companies—like most recently, AI search engine Perplexity (see below for a little more intel)—are being accused of impersonating legitimate users to scrape content from websites without permission, but it will only be effective if it can accurately detect dishonest bots. Only time will tell.

🔍 Has AI search just got better? 

Our Report: AI search engine start-up—Perplexity—has announced major AI upgrades to its Pro Search feature, that’s expected to rival search giant, Google.

🔑 Key Points:

• The AI search engine can now link multiple searches together to find and display more accurate and detailed, multi-step information summaries, addressing every possible aspect of a complex query.

• Eg. “When should I go to see the Northern Lights” query, displays: When to view the lights; the optimal location to see them; the top viewing spots, and the ideal time—mimicking a real human, multi-step search.

• It also has more advanced math and programming capabilities that improve its ability to analyze data, solve math problems, generate content, and debug code, but is only currently available in the US.

🤔 Why you should care: This upgrade comes just weeks after Perplexity was accused of plagiarism and using data scrapers that ignore robots.txt file rules to take content from publications, without permission.
