🔐 Brave reveals ‘safe and secure’ AI browser chatbot

Our Report: Brave (the privacy-centric browser, and our personal favorite) has introduced Leo, a new AI chatbot designed to offer "anonymous and secure" assistance to its users.

🔑 Key Points:

  • Leo, available on the Brave desktop browser, provides a range of services similar to other AI chatbots, such as translating, answering questions, summarizing web pages, and content generation.

  • To set itself apart from the competition, Brave has focussed on its privacy values through unique features: no recording of conversations/use in AI training and no login credentials required for usage.

  • Leo is based on Meta’s Llama 2 AI model and is free for all desktop users, but a premium version using Anthropic’s Claude Instant model (with faster responses) will be available for $15 per month.

  • Additional perks for premium users include access to higher-quality conversations, priority queuing, higher rate limits, and early feature access (probably worth it).

🤨 Why you should care: Brave is one of the first to really set itself apart from the competition with a privacy focus. The success of such a service will be a true measure of the public’s response to the littering of headlines damning the privacy practices of OpenAI, Meta, Google, and Microsoft.
