😱 How Google taught translate to recognize homonyms

Homonyms are words with identical spellings or pronunciations but different meanings, like "bass" (a fish) and "bass" (a musical instrument). Originally, Google Translate used a statistical approach, relying on the frequency of words in translation data, but in 2016 that all changed.

They’ve now shifted to a neural machine learning model, using a model trained on vast examples of translated materials, which could understand the context and discern between different meanings of homonyms—illustrating yet another use case of AI in action.
