OpenAI has acquired Roi, an AI-powered personal-investing app that offers personalized financial insights, to accelerate its push into consumer-focused AI products. The undisclosed deal, which is being described as an āacqui-hire,ā will bring Roiās technology to OpenAI along with its CEO and co-founder, Sujith Vishwajith, and his engineering team.
OpenAI plans to integrate Roiās tech into ChatGPT, which will allow OpenAI to build AI assistants that can deliver tailored financial guidance and user-specific investment insights.
This highlights OpenAIās strategic shift from building generic āone-size-fits-allā AI towards specialist AI agents that can deliver personalized support in areas like budgeting, investing, and financial planning.
Analysts say it also signals OpenAIās intent to compete more directly with fintech platforms and strengthen its consumer offerings, when its rivals are also busy building agent-driven, consumer-led AI products.
This latest acquisition comes after OpenAI, in recent months, has launched a flurry of consumer-led products, including a new social media app, Sora, and an āinstant checkoutā shopping agent. This is because the next wave of AI growth will not come from building generic AI chatbots; AI companies across all sectors need to follow OpenAIās lead and focus on developing deeply personalized AI models that not only understand and adapt to usersā unique needs but can also solve their real-life issues and frustrations.
Businesses face many challenges going from AI ambition to implementation.
Success requires more than adopting new technology. It involves intentionally aligning AI with workflows, data, and goals. As AI evolves into a business-wide opportunity, leaders must ensure the right AI is applied to the right challenges.
Explore IBMās playbook detailing 3 challenges and approaches you can take to help boost the impact of your agentic AI.

CMY Cubes, an educational kit business, had limited in-house time/resources to create regular blogs, social content, or SEO copy.
It adopted a custom GPT model aligned with their brand style, which generated SEO-friendly blog posts, content, and promo copy.
As a result, CMY Cubes was able to publish content more regularly, with less manual effort and resources.
This AI-supported content generation not only lowered resource costs but it freed them up to focus on core business operations.

Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos, has predicted that, within the next 10ā20 years, data centers will be built in space and will outperform Earth-based ones, thanks to cheaper launches and advances in solar energy.
He envisions solar-powered data centers orbiting Earth and believes that moving power-hungry data centers into space will not only reduce environmental strain but also unlock new computing capacity.
According to Bezos, āitās already happened with weather and communication satellites, the next step will be data centres," as the cost of transporting equipment to space is falling fast enough to make the idea realistic.Ā
OpenAIās highly anticipated first hardware product (designed in collaboration with the legendary iPhone designer, Jony Ive) is reportedly facing delays due to technical challenges and a lack of clarity over its core purpose.
The AI device, which was initially slated for an early-2026 launch, may now slip into late-2026 as the team struggles with disagreements over its āpersonality,ā functionality, and how it handles privacy.
Reports are suggesting the new device will be āa palm-sized device without a screen that can take audio and visual cues from the physical environment and respond to usersā requestsā¦in an 'always on' approach.ā
