OpenAI has released ChatGPT Work, a new AI agent that combines ChatGPT with Codex technology to handle complex tasks across apps, files, and workflows. The release follows the Trump administration's greenlight for GPT-5.6, which powers the new agent and is now available to all users after a two-week government-restricted preview period.
ChatGPT Work can connect to Slack, Gmail, Google Drive, calendars, and CRMs through a unified plugins directory, pulling context from connected tools to create finished documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and web apps.
The new GPT-5.6 model suite includes Sol, Terra, and Luna at different price tiers, with Sol at $5/$30 per million tokens and Luna at $1/$6, positioning OpenAI as a lower-cost alternative to competitors' most powerful models.
OpenAI is introducing Scheduled Tasks, which let ChatGPT run workflows on a schedule or when triggered by events, allowing it to monitor Slack updates, refresh meeting agendas, and update presentations while users are away.
This is OpenAI's direct response to Anthropic's Claude Cowork, merging its coding agent capabilities into the main ChatGPT experience for non-technical users. For enterprise teams already using Codex, the transition is seamless. The desktop app now includes Chat, Work, and Codex modes, with Enterprise admins retaining full control over which tools ChatGPT can access and what actions it can take. Nearly 100% of OpenAI's internal teams now use these tools for finance, sales, and operations work.
The hardest part of adopting AI isn't finding tools, it's knowing which ones are actually worth using.
That's why we've upgraded our Tool Database into a completely redesigned Tool Index, featuring 5,500+ AI tools, structured comparisons, powerful search and filtering, and a new AI Stack Builder that recommends the best tools for your business based on your team, budget, and existing workflow.
Spend less time researching and more time implementing AI.
THE BUSINESS BRIEFING: HR & TALENT (powered by Upscaile)
A 45-person B2B SaaS company (project management software, $3.8M ARR) was burning 11.4 hours of HR and IT time per new hire across offer letters, equipment provisioning, account setup for 14 tools, and compliance enrollment. New hires arrived without functional equipment 30% of the time, without software access 45% of the time, and onboarding satisfaction sat at 3.1/5. They built an automated pipeline using BambooHR triggers, Okta SCIM provisioning, n8n workflows, and GPT-4 for 30/60/90 plan generation.
Tool used: n8n + Okta SCIM + GPT-4 — end-to-end onboarding automation from offer letter to day-90 check-ins.
Result: Onboarding time dropped from 11.4 hours to 2.4 hours per hire. IT provisioning collapsed from 3.2 days to 4 hours. New hire satisfaction jumped from 3.1/5 to 4.4/5. HR freed 186 hours annually.
The lesson: The automation only worked because Okta group logic eliminated manual provisioning decisions. Three tools without API access still required 45 minutes of IT time per hire. Accept the irreducible minimum and automate everything else.
Steal this: Map every tool requiring provisioning for new hires this week. Check which have SCIM or API access. The ones that do are your automation candidates. The ones that don't need documented SOPs and auto-generated task tickets so IT has everything pre-filled.

THE POLICY CORNER
EU AI content labeling enforcement begins August 2. Watermarking is now mandatory for any AI system serving European users.
The European Commission cleared the Code of Practice on Transparency of AI-Generated Content, triggering a 24-day countdown to full enforcement of Article 50 transparency obligations. Any company whose generative AI system serves EU users must embed machine-readable markers in all AI-generated audio, images, video, and text. Chatbots must disclose they're AI at first contact. Deployers must visibly label deepfakes and AI-generated public-interest text.
Deadline: August 2, 2026. Companies wanting to sign the voluntary compliance framework must submit by July 22.
Risk: Non-signatories face closer regulatory scrutiny from national market surveillance authorities. Failure to label deepfakes triggers immediate violations with no grace period.
Your move: Check whether your AI vendors have implemented dual-layer watermarking (C2PA metadata plus pixel-level marking). If you deploy AI-generated content, confirm visible labeling protocols are in place.

The Money: AI infrastructure secures long-term anchor tenants
Capital is locking in decades-long commitments, not speculative bets. TeraWulf's $3.5B debt raise and Zhipu AI's $4B funding signal a shift: serious money now flows to AI infrastructure with contracted revenue streams, not model development alone. The pattern is clear. Investors want predictable cash flows backed by hyperscaler leases.
Deals to know:
TeraWulf (Debt financing, $3.5B) -- Kentucky AI data center campus backed by 20-year Anthropic lease projected to generate $19B in revenue. Morgan Stanley leading leveraged loan and high-yield bond offering. Investors: Morgan Stanley (lead)
Zhipu AI (Funding round, $4B) -- Chinese AI lab raising capital to compete with U.S. frontier labs on compute infrastructure. Stock jumped 11.3% on announcement.
Signal: Infrastructure plays with anchor tenants now command the premiums that model companies did two years ago. The financing thesis has flipped from "who has the best model" to "who has locked capacity."
