VC firm, a16z (founded by Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz), published the 5th edition of its AI reportâThe Top 100 AI Consumer Appsâwhich showcases 2.5 years of data about how consumers are using AI products, from general assistance and companionship to image and video editing. Interestingly, it looks like Googleâs Gemini and Elon Muskâs Grok are closing the gap on OpenAIâs ChatGPT.Â
Google moved up four places to secure a spot on the âtop AI consumer web productsâ list, and while ChatGPT remains the #1 app on mobile, Gemini is now #2âbut with nearly half the amount of active monthly users.
Grok ranked 4th on the web and placed 23rd on mobile, but it went from having no app (it launched on X) and zero users in 2024, to having 20M in July 2025, with the release of Grok 4 bringing a 40% increase in users.
Chinese outlier, DeepSeek (makers of R1), saw its growth flatten on mobile and drop more than 40% on the web (from its peak in Feb 2025), and Anthropicâs Claude also saw mobile use flatten, but web use has grown.
While the report highlighted who the âbig dogsâ are in the AI space, it also featured 14 newcomers in the mobile category and outlined some of the AI apps that were close to making it to the top AI apps list. Those included PixAI, Bolt, and Blackbox AI on the web, and Talkie, Seekee, and Photo AI on mobile. This, and the growth of Gemini and Grok, shows that thereâs been a big shift in consumer dynamicsâpeople appear to be open to adopting a wide variety of AI products, not just ChatGPT, for different purposes.
Superhuman uses AI to cut through noise, file what matters, and write replies before you even start typing.Â

Yum Brands, which manages global food franchises like Taco Bell and KFC was struggling to maintain customer engagement and spending.
Traditional advertising methods, like sending generic mass emails, werenât driving customer loyalty or encouraging regular orders.
They implemented AI-driven platform that leveraged real-time data to choose the optimal day/time to deliver personalized promotions to customers.
AI-powered campaigns and personalized messaging resulted in a notable uplift in customer response and transaction frequency.
Data brokers sell personal infoâoften for less than a dollar.
Whatâs publicly available:
Current & past addresses
Mobile numbers (even outdated ones)
Family connections
Employment history
Property records
Court documents
This information is bundled and sold to anyone willing to pay. Even ChatGPT can return surprising details when asked about someone with an online presence.
This isnât paranoiaâitâs probability:
1 in 4 Americans experience identity theft
$1,100 average loss per incident
Over 200 hours to recover
Manually opting out of data brokers is exhaustingâ195+ forms, 30+ hours, and records often reappear.
Incogni automates the process:
â Contacts data brokers
â Forces data deletion
â Monitors & re-removes data

Public safety AI start-upâAurelianâ(which just secured $14M in Series A funding) has an AI voice assistant thatâs handling 74% of non-emergency 911 calls in 12 US Emergency Communication Centers (ECCs).
This is saving each dispatch team member 3hrs p/d, while helping them to prioritize proper emergency cases. Itâs also helping to solve severe ECC staffing shortages and increasing call volumes.
The AI voice assistant recognizes a real emergency and transfers it to a human dispatcher. For non-emergencies (eg, noise complaints or inquiries), it generates a report and sends it to the right department.
Rivals OpenAI and Anthropic have joined forces and given each other access to their carefully guarded AI models so they can complete safety testing and surface blind spots in each companyâs internal evaluations.
Anthropicâs models wouldnât answer most questions if unsure of the answer, whereas OpenAIâs refused to far lessâhallucinating more, and featured âextremeâ sycophancy (reinforcement of bad behaviour to please users).
OpenAI co-founder, Wojciech Zaremba, believes this type of collaboration is crucial, âas AI is entering a 'consequential development stageâ and Anthropic also wants to continue to âincrease collaboration.â
