A federal judge has sharply questioned the Trump administration's efforts to cut Anthropic out of classified military systems, calling the Pentagon's actions "troubling" and suggesting they appear designed to "cripple" the AI company rather than address legitimate security concerns.
U.S. District Judge Rita Lin said the government's moves "don't really seem to be tailored to the stated national security concern," questioning whether the Pentagon was punishing Anthropic for its stance on guardrails.
The dispute began when Anthropic sought to bar the military from using Claude for mass surveillance or fully autonomous weapons, while the Pentagon demanded access for "all lawful purposes."
A Justice Department attorney conceded that the "supply chain risk" designation does not stop contractors from using Anthropic on non-military work, contradicting Defense Secretary Hegseth's public statements.
The case exposes growing tension between AI developers and the federal government over who controls guardrails on military AI use. Anthropic was the only AI firm with technology deployed in classified U.S. military systems before this dispute, and the outcome could set precedent for how the Pentagon works with AI vendors who push back on use cases. Judge Lin said she plans to rule in the coming days.
THE BUSINESS BRIEFING: FINANCE (powered by Upscaile)
Mail Shark (direct mail marketing, 200+ employees) was drowning in manual AP workflows, tracking payments across spreadsheets, ACH, credit cards, and paper checks. Processing 200+ invoices monthly created training nightmares and late-payment risks when staff transitioned unexpectedly.
Tool used: Tipalti -- AI-driven invoice capture, centralized approval workflows, and unified vendor payment management integrated with Sage Intacct.
Result: 75% reduction in AP workload. 3,000+ hours saved annually. Zero late payments. All invoices queued ahead of due dates with automated remittance notices.
The lesson: The six-week implementation window was critical—Mail Shark transitioned fast, avoiding the "test forever, launch never" trap that kills automation projects.
Steal this: Map your current AP workflow on paper this week. Count how many systems you touch to process one invoice (email, spreadsheet, bank portal, accounting software). If it's more than two, you're bleeding hours.
TOGETHER WITH THENVOI
See how it works for your team!
The Problem: AI engineering is fragmented. Developers act as "manual middleware" between isolated tools like Claude Code and Codex.
The Solution: Thenvoi’s Agentic Mesh enables distributed agents to exchange context and delegate tasks autonomously.
The Result: Move beyond fragmented integration. Equip your team with the infrastructure to run a truly autonomous, multi-agent systems.
THE POLICY CORNER
Russia's Ministry for Digital Development announced regulations requiring foreign AI platforms to store user data on Russian servers and comply with content moderation standards set by Moscow. The rules apply to any AI tool accessible to Russian users, regardless of where the company is headquartered. Non-compliant platforms will be blocked at the ISP level.
Deadline: Expected enforcement starts in 2026
Your move: Watch how this plays out. Data sovereignty rules are spreading globally, and Russia's approach signals what other markets may demand. If you're building AI products, map where your users are and which jurisdictions' data laws apply to you before you scale into regions with conflicting requirements.

The Money: Home robotics exits accelerate
Amazon acquired two robotics startups in March alone, signaling a land grab for embodied AI talent and form factors. As humanoid development costs plateau and commercial partnerships multiply, strategic buyers are racing to own the next interface layer between consumers and autonomous systems.
Deals to know:
Fauna Robotics (Acquisition, undisclosed) -- Kid-size bipedal robots for home use. Founded by ex-Meta and Google engineers; shipped first units (Sprout, 59 lbs) to R&D partners in Q1. Acquirer: Amazon
Manus VR (Acquisition, under review) -- Neural interface technology for humanoid control systems. Deal blocked by Chinese regulators; co-founders barred from leaving country during review. Acquirer: Meta
Signal: Big tech isn't waiting for humanoid economics to improve -- they're buying positioning in the form factor wars before valuations reflect market readiness.
