Microsoft and OpenAI put tensions aside?

🚨 Our Report

Microsoft and OpenAI have revised their partnership and reached a "Nonbinding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)” (which isn’t a legally binding document, but does establish expectations from each side) that would allow OpenAI to continue its mission to convert its for-profit arm into a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC). This would enable the start-up to raise funds from external investors and, eventually, become a public company.

🔓 Key Points

  • OpenAI’s chairman, Bret Taylor has confirmed that, under the new agreement, OpenAI’s non-profit arm will remain, and will get a stake in the company, once it transitions into a PBC (said to be worth $100B+).

  • Both sides have released a statement confirming the MOU, but have stated that they’ll “continue to work with the attorneys general” on the transition plan, implying OpenAI still needs regulatory approval.

  • This comes after months of rising tension between the two, but they appear adamant that together, they will “remain focused on delivering AI tools for everyone, grounded in our shared commitment to safety.”

🔐 Relevance

OpenAI’s planned transition has caused great controversy within the tech industry: In a well-publicized legal battle, Elon Musk (who was one of OpenAI’s original co-founders), is accusing the start-up of "abandoning" its founding mission, which was to develop AGI for the benefit of humankind, in its quest for $$$. Others, including non-profits Encode and The Midas Project, have recently sided with Musk, prompting OpenAI to issue them with subpoenas, claiming that the non-profits have been funded by Musk to take that stance.

iPhone 17 Is Coming. Here’s What Elon Thinks

“Apple used to really bring out products that would blow people’s minds.”
Those are Elon Musk’s words.

Now, Apple’s strategy looks less like innovation, and more like repetition. But a new smartphone company is stepping up to deliver the mind-blowing moments we've been missing.

Turning smartphones from an expense into a revenue stream, Mode Mobile has already helped users make and save $325M+ and achieved a staggering 32,481% revenue growth rate over three years. Uber did it to taxis, Airbnb did it to hotels…And now, Mode Mobile is doing it to the $500B smartphone industry.

Now, with their Nasdaq ticker $MODE secured, investors can still get in before a potential IPO.

Last round sold out at $0.30/share – don’t miss this one.

How AI helped farmers manage unpredictable crop conditions

  • Bayer Crop Science, specialists in agronomy (soil and crop management), needed to provide farmers with timely, accurate crop information.

  • Their traditional advisory services were hampered by geography, staffing, speed, and the amount of data they could process.

  • They deployed an AI system that analyzed large volumes of research, weather, and soil data to provide farmers with faster insights.

  • As a result, Bayer could reach more farmers, with quick, expert advice that helped them deal with unpredictable environmental conditions.

  • The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is investigating seven companies that develop AI companions for minors (including Google, OpenAI, Meta, and xAI) to uncover how they manage safety and monetization aspects.

  • They want to establish how they limit the potential negative impacts on young users, as guardrails, in place to block or re-route sensitive topics, “can be less reliable in long interactions” (according to OpenAI).

  • The investigation comes after several serious incidents have been related to AI companions, and mental health experts have reported a rise in “AI-related psychosis,” where users believe their chatbot is a real human.

  • Anthropic’s AI chatbot, Claude, can now "remember" past conversations without any prompting, meaning it will start applying details, like preferences, from past conversations into its responses, automatically.

  • Claude’s “Memory” is optional (and only for Team and Enterprise users), and comes a month after Anthropic rolled out a feature that saw Claude able to remember past conversations, but only when it was asked to.

  • According to early adopters, Claude’s memory is particularly focused on recalling work-related details, such as “team processes” and “client needs,” and users can view, delete, and edit Claude’s memories if they wish.
