Latest in AI
Microsoft and OpenAI have announced an amended agreement that simplifies their partnership while giving both companies more flexibility. The updated terms allow OpenAI to serve its products across any cloud provider, not just Azure, and make Microsoft's license to OpenAI's technology non-exclusive for the first time.
Microsoft remains OpenAI's primary cloud partner, and OpenAI products will ship first on Azure, but OpenAI can now offer its products to customers on competing cloud platforms if Microsoft cannot support the necessary capabilities.
Microsoft's license to OpenAI IP will continue through 2032 but is now non-exclusive, meaning OpenAI can license its technology to other companies. Microsoft will no longer pay a revenue share to OpenAI.
Revenue share payments from OpenAI to Microsoft will continue through 2030 at the same percentage but with a total cap. Microsoft continues as a major shareholder, participating directly in OpenAI's growth.
For enterprise buyers, the amended terms mark OpenAI's push toward cloud flexibility and independence. Organizations locked into AWS or Google Cloud can now expect direct OpenAI product access without migrating to Azure. For Microsoft, the amended terms trade exclusivity for continued equity upside and a simplified financial arrangement as OpenAI scales.
THE BUSINESS BRIEFING: MARKETING (powered by Upscaile)
Mumbai-based D2C fashion brand (₹24 Crore annual revenue) was burning ₹7.2 Crore on ads with flat returns. Their Instagram ROAS sat at 1.04x, literally losing money on every ad click. The problem wasn't the ads. It was what happened after: Instagram users landed on generic pages built for desktop, faced 18-field checkout forms, and saw card payment options when 68% preferred UPI.
Tool used: Troopod -- AI personalization platform that delivers source-specific landing pages, behavioral targeting, and payment intelligence in real-time.
Result: ROAS climbed from 3.3x to 11.5x over six months (+248%). Instagram specifically jumped from 1.04x to 11.2x. Same ad spend, ₹42.7 Crore additional annual revenue. Conversion rate went from 0.70% to 2.18%.
The lesson: The team compounded micro-wins, each month added 30-60% improvement that multiplied with previous gains. Month 1 fixed source-specific landing pages (+92% Instagram conversion). Month 2 optimized mobile checkout (+54%). Month 3 added behavioral AI (+51%). Month 4 switched cart recovery from email to WhatsApp (34% recovery vs 8%). Month 5 unlocked tier 2/3 cities with Hindi language options (+181% conversion). Month 6 deployed autonomous AI testing that ran 2,000+ experiments simultaneously.
Steal this: Audit where paid traffic dies this week. Pull Google Analytics for your top three paid sources. Check conversion rate from click to purchase for each. If one source converts 50%+ worse than average, it's not the ad—it's the post-click experience. Fix mobile load speed, match landing page to ad creative, and show the payment method that segment prefers. Start there.

THE POLICY CORNER
FTC bans AI sales platform Air AI, fines operators $50K after deceptive earnings claims harmed entrepreneurs.
Air AI and its operators settled FTC charges over misleading claims about business growth, earnings potential, and refund guarantees for their AI services marketed to small businesses since February 2023. The company violated both the Telemarketing Sales Rule and Business Opportunity Rule by making unsubstantiated profit claims, failing to provide required disclosure documents, and refusing refunds to eligible customers.
Deadline: In effect now. Air AI permanently barred from selling business opportunities.
Risk: $18M monetary judgment (mostly suspended due to inability to pay). Violating settlement terms triggers full judgment plus contempt penalties.
Your move: If your company uses AI tools to market business opportunities or make earnings claims, ensure all revenue projections are substantiated with written documentation and compliant with FTC Business Opportunity Rule disclosure requirements.

The Money: Sovereign AI consolidation accelerates
Governments and enterprise buyers are pushing for AI systems that keep data within national or regional borders, and capital is following. A $20B valuation and €500M structured financing in the last 72 hours show investors are backing "sovereign AI" as a defensible moat in regulated markets.
Deals to know:
Cohere + Aleph Alpha (Acquisition + Series E, €500M structured financing) -- Cohere is acquiring Germany's Aleph Alpha to form a Canadian-German "sovereign AI" champion targeting defense, finance, energy, healthcare, and the public sector. Investors: Schwarz Group (lead), existing Cohere backers. Valuation set around $20B.
Manus (Blocked acquisition, undisclosed) -- China blocked a foreign acquisition of AI startup Manus, signaling tighter control over strategic AI assets and cross-border ownership.
Signal: Capital and policy are aligning around national control of AI infrastructure. Expect more cross-border restrictions and regional AI champions built for compliance-heavy sectors.
