Musk given $2M by US Government

🚨 Our Report

The Pentagon has awarded Elon Musk’s AI start-up, xAI, a $2M contract to modernize the Department of Defense (DoD) with its chatbot, Grok.

🔓 Key Points

  • xAI—which is calling the initiative “Grok for Government”—is one of several big tech companies (including Google and OpenAI) that have been given substantial amounts to help the Trump administration adopt AI.

  • The $2M contract will give the DoD access to Grok 4, the latest (controversial) version of the chatbot, custom tools for national security use, and technical support for classified environments.

  • In addition to the DoD contract, other federal agencies will also be able to purchase xAI tools and xAI plans to develop custom models and applications for healthcare and science use cases.

🔐 Relevance

This comes just days after Grok 4 triggered a huge backlash over its antisemitic comments and posts on Musk’s social media platform, X, which Musk blamed on the chatbot being “too eager to please,” something which xAI is currently rectifying.

How The Bank of America Uses AI

  • The Bank of America needed to make their internal operations smarter and quicker, without putting customer-facing systems or compliance at risk.

  • They deployed a 4-tier AI framework to enhance internal operations, improve employee productivity, and maintain regulatory compliance.

  • This included automating repetitive, low-level decision-making tasks and building an AI assistant (Erica) to answer customer and staff FAQs.

  • As a result, employee productivity and engagement improved, time spent on manual tasks reduced, and fraud prevention increased.

Googling a name can reveal more than expected

Data brokers sell personal info—often for less than a dollar. What’s publicly available:

  • Current & past addresses

  • Mobile numbers (even outdated ones)

  • Family connections

  • Employment history

  • Property records

  • Court documents

This information is bundled and sold to anyone willing to pay. Even ChatGPT can return surprising details when asked about someone with an online presence.

This isn’t paranoia—it’s probability:

  • 1 in 4 Americans experience identity theft

  • $1,100 average loss per incident

  • Over 200 hours to recover

Manually opting out of data brokers is exhausting—195+ forms, 30+ hours, and records often reappear.

Incogni automates the process:

✅ Contacts data brokers

✅ Forces data deletion

✅ Monitors & re-removes data

  • Yesterday, we reported that Google had poached the CEO, co-founder, and several research leaders at AI coding start-up, WindSurf, in a $2.4B reverse-acquihire, squashing OpenAI’s $3B plan to acquire the start-up.

  • Now, reports are coming in that Cognition (makers of the viral AI coding agent, Devin) has acquired the start-up, including its IP, products, trademark, brand, and talent (minus those that Google has taken).

  • Although Cognition hasn’t revealed how much they acquired WindSurf for, with an Enterprise user base of 350, WindSurf reached $82M in ARR, with enterprise ARR doubling quarter-over-quarter.

  • NVIDIA “hopes to start deliveries” of its H20 AI chips to China, as the US government lifts the export ban that prevented the sale of these advanced AI chips over concerns that they would be used by the Chinese military.

  • This is a surprise U-turn, as the H20 chips—which were specifically designed for the Chinese market to meet US export requirements—were banned just three months ago, under new export rules.

  • This comes after NVIDIA CEO, Jensen Huang, recently met with President Trump and reportedly committed to creating more jobs in the US and ensuring that the US retains its global lead in AI.
