💰 Musk to raise $1B for xAI

Our Report: Elon Musk is looking to raise $1B for xAI to further develop the flagship product—Grok—which takes on the personality/playful approach of the supercomputer in Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

🔑 Key Points:

  • Musk has already raised approximately $135M from four undisclosed investors, with the first sale dated November 29, and has now announced his intention to raise $1B to develop xAI (the so-called everything app) further.

  • Grok is being developed as a unique AI bot with the capability to answer unconventional queries, differentiating it from competitors like ChatGPT, Bard, and Claude. Furthermore, Grok plans to offer real-time updates and knowledge integration to distinguish between authentic information and misinformation.

  • Despite stepping down from OpenAI's board in 2018 and expressing criticism towards the organization, Musk's investment and public backing of AI in general is sure to drive a lot of attention, and potentially investors, to xAI.

🤨 Why you should care: Musk's involvement and the substantial fundraising goal for xAI mark a period of extreme optimism within the AI investing landscape—wether their team reaches that goal is something we’ll likely find out in a future issue of AI Tool Report….

ChatGPT Prompt

✅ Practioner Profile: Mortiz Kremb

Just came up with a super useful prompt.

Whenever ChatGPT goes 'too far' with something, for example:
- tone too formal
- summarization too brief
- brainstorming not creative enough

Just tell it to rate its answer on a scale of 1-10. Then adjust it to your desired number.

✅ Meta & IBM form AI alliance

Meta and IBM have formed the AI Alliance to promote "open innovation" and "open science" in AI, aiming to foster a community that advances responsible AI innovation, by forming working groups and committees to focus on AI trust, validation, infrastructure, and open-source models.

The AI alliance will be made up of 45 members, including AMD, Yale, Intel, CERN, Imperial College London & many more—yet the success of the alliance will take time, and evidenced results to measure.

👀 The StabilityAI x Getty drama continues

A UK court ruled that Getty Images' lawsuit against Stability AI, the creator of Stable Diffusion, will proceed to trial, after alleging that Stability AI used Getty's copyrighted images to train its AI model.

Stability AI had argued that the case should be dismissed as no one involved in the model's training or development was based in the UK and that the model was trained using US-based cloud computing resources (there were inconsistencies found). This adds to a growing turmoil that has beset StabilityAI (apt name) and its founder from the get-go.

🔝 ChatGPT is Wikipedia’s most viewed article in 2023

In 2023, ChatGPT's Wikipedia article was the most viewed on the English-language Wikipedia site, with 49.5M views, with the overall English Wikipedia site attracting over 84B views.

Furthermore, ChatGPT maintained high daily views throughout the year, registering between 100,000 & 400,000 every single day and the totality of all ChatGPT article views surmounting 78M page views. It just goes to show that the public’s interest in AI is at an all-time high, meaning there’s a wealth of job openings (just check out the section below).
