Reddit has filed a lawsuit against Perplexity and three data-scraping companies, alleging they circumvented Reddit's protections to steal content for training AI models without paying licensing fees, while Reddit maintains paid partnerships with competitors like OpenAI and Google.
Reddit says Perplexity increased its citations of Reddit content after receiving a cease-and-desist letter in May 2024, while promising to respect Reddit's data protections and denying use of Reddit content for AI training.
The lawsuit alleges that Perplexity works with data-scraping services (SerpApi, Oxylabs, and AWMProxy) that bypass Reddit's direct protections by extracting Reddit content from Google search results.
Reddit describes the defendants as part of an "industrial-scale data laundering economy" where scrapers steal protected content and sell it to AI companies that refuse to enter legitimate licensing agreements.
This case signals the growing battle over AI training data as companies like Reddit monetize their user-generated content through licensing deals. For AI companies, it marks a shift where scraping workarounds may face consequences, potentially forcing more expensive direct licensing arrangements with content platforms.

A US care network with 16 clinics providing walk-in care faced overwhelming contact volumes, leaving high wait times.
The issue stemmed from manual dial handling and an inflexible IVR system that couldn’t scale or integrate with digital channels.
They adopted LivePerson’s Voice bot AI, redirecting callers to SMS messaging and automated FAQs for faster responses that pressure.
The result: daily conversations dropped from 543 to 334, answer percentages rose to 80%, and staff stress levels decreased significantly.

General Motors will integrate conversational AI with Google Gemini into its vehicles starting next year, with a longer-term plan to introduce its own custom-built AI.
These features will be supported by a centralized computing platform, also set for a 2028 debut. The system promises to deliver 35 times more AI execution and unites every major vehicle system on a single core.
This serves as GM's strategic pivot from traditional manufacturing to a model where cars function as intelligent assistants. This move positions its vehicles to evolve into software-defined platforms.
Snapchat has made its “Imagine Lens” for all users in the U.S., its first open prompt AI image-generation tool available beyond paid tiers. The feature lets users type prompts to instantly generate edits.
The move follows AI video tools from Meta and OpenAI, showing Snap’s effort to keep pace with rivals competing for younger audiences drawn to generative media.
By opening entry, Snap aims to boost engagement and ad-driven activity through wider use of AI features, as social platforms race to integrate generative tools into their ecosystems.
