Latest in AI
Goldman Sachs has removed access to Anthropic's Claude AI models for its bankers in Hong Kong, citing a strict interpretation of its contract with the AI company. Employees of the US bank in the Chinese territory were previously able to interact with Claude through an internal AI platform, but in recent weeks they have no longer had access. Other mainstream models such as ChatGPT and Gemini remain available.
The bank took a strict interpretation of its contract with Anthropic after consulting with the AI company, concluding that Hong Kong staff should not use its products. OpenAI and Google remain unaffected.
Anthropic has said that its Claude models have never been officially supported in Hong Kong. Goldman Sachs declined to comment.
The move reflects growing US concerns over technology leaks in China, particularly around "distillation," where local firms use foreign AI models to train their own systems.
For enterprises operating in Hong Kong, regional AI access is no longer a given. Companies with global Anthropic contracts may need to reconsider usage across APAC offices. Analysts warn this could undermine Hong Kong's standing as a financial hub, as staff who have relied on Claude for coding and financial modeling may find themselves at a competitive disadvantage. It also raises a broader question for business leaders: review your AI vendor contracts and regional terms before assuming global access.
THE BUSINESS BRIEFING: FINANCE (powered by Upscaile)
AlphaCo (diversified advanced-manufacturing company, multi-region operations) was hemorrhaging cash through manual AP/AR workflows, missed early-payment discounts, duplicate invoices hitting plant-level systems, and zero visibility into freight spend with major carriers. Finance couldn't hire or retain transactional AP/AR staff, cycle times kept stretching, and PE stakeholders needed diligence-ready controls fast.
Tool used: OpenEnvoy -- autonomous finance platform for AP, AR, and freight auditing.
Result: 69% human-free AP automation. 78% of invoices arrived approval-ready with zero manual coding. Processing time dropped to under 2 days across all invoices. 100% of early-payment discounts captured. 12K+ duplicate invoices blocked in real time. $16M in supplier overbillings identified and verified in the last 3 months alone.
The lesson: Autonomous finance works when it replaces entire workflows, not just steps. AlphaCo didn't automate invoice entry -- they eliminated manual ingestion, coding, routing, and validation entirely. Continuous preventive controls caught errors before they hit the ledger.
Steal this: Audit your AP system this week for duplicate invoice risk. Check how many invoices from the same supplier, same amount, or same PO number entered your system in the last 90 days. If you find duplicates, you're losing cash right now -- and a human-free AP system would have blocked them instantly.

THE POLICY CORNER
China mandates AI-generated content labels on all digital platforms -- ByteDance warned for non-compliance.
China's cyberspace authority has issued a formal compliance warning to ByteDance over gaps in AI content labeling, part of a wider crackdown requiring all platforms to clearly mark AI-generated text, images, and videos. Any company operating digital platforms in China must now implement detection systems and visible labels to distinguish synthetic content from human-created material. The rule applies to all platforms serving Chinese users, regardless of company headquarters.
Deadline: In effect now. Enforcement stepped up April 2026.
Your move: If you operate a platform or product with Chinese users, audit your AI content labeling systems immediately. Confirm your detection tech can flag synthetic media and that labels are visible to end users. Document compliance in case of regulatory inquiry.
