In an effort to boost domestic AI chip production, the Trump administration is considering a new 1:1 ratio-based trade law that would penalize US-based AI chip manufacturers if they don't make as many chips as their customers import from overseas manufacturers.
Although details are vague at this stage, and it’s not known how long US AI chip manufacturers will have to meet this 1:1 ratio, insider knowledge has revealed that those that fail to comply will face hefty tariffs.
These reports have raised alarm bells with industry leaders, who are concerned that building AI chip manufacturing plants takes years—using Intel’s Ohio facility, which has been delayed to 2030, as an example.
And, while AI chip manufacturer TSMC has pledged to spend $100B to expand US AI chip production over the next four years, analysts say the ratio rule could disrupt supply chains in the short term.
This comes after President Trump first began talking about introducing AI chip tariffs in August, but many feel this ratio-based approach might harm the US chip industry, as they don’t have the infrastructure in place to meet demand.

Staff at Lowe’s, a home improvement retailer, were getting FAQs from customers about products, inventory, and home improvement advice.
But even experienced staff didn’t always have access to up-to-date information, which led to poor customer service and lost sales.
They deployed an AI device that allowed sales associates to ask questions, “what size screws do I need?” and expert-level” advice on demand.
As a result, sales staff responded quicker and more accurately to customer FAQs, leading to improved customer experience and increased sales.

Consultancy firm Accenture has warned employees that it will “exit” those who fail to transition to expanding AI-driven roles, to meet client demand for more cost-efficient, AI-enabled services, as early as next year.
To help keep as many people employed as possible, it’s reportedly prioritizing AI training and has already launched a large-scale reskilling program to train staff in AI tools, data analytics, and automation.
This move shows that AI is no longer a novelty, but a core business strategy that drives hiring, training, and cost-cutting decisions, and failure to keep up will mean losing ground to more agile competitors.
YouTube is testing a new AI feature that turns playlists into radio-style shows, complete with virtual hosts who chat between songs, share trivia, and respond to listener prompts, recreating the feel of live radio.
A small number of US users are currently trialling the feature, and their early feedback suggests that they’re finding the interactive parts engaging, but are questioning the AI DJ’s authenticity when comparing it to a human one.
In response, YouTube has established that the AI DJs have been designed to enhance, not replace, existing playlists and human content, and that this is a broader push to personalize music discovery for users.
