🇬🇧 UK proposes 7 principles for responsible AI

Our Report: The U.K.'s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has finalized its review on generative AI, proposing seven principles for the responsible development and usage of foundation models.

🔑 Key Points:

  • The CMA's seven proposed principles aim to ensure consumer protection and include: Accountability, Access, Diversity, Choice, Flexibility, Fair dealing & Transparency

  • Will Hayter, senior director for CMA's Digital Markets Unit (DMU), expressed that the regulator's objective is to nudge the market towards positive outcomes using these principles.

  • This report is a result of collaborative efforts from AI labs, tech firms, academics, and civil society—with results generated from over 70 different organizations.

  • The CMA won't quickly restrict AI advancements—and regulations, when they do come—will be specific to ensure the cutting-edge isn’t dulled by governmental oversight.

🤨 Why you should care: With AI’s potential to influence markets, these guidelines will play a pivotal role in shaping future regulatory decisions, and set the tone for other Western nations—including the US—in regulating AI.

Writer, an enterprise-focused generative AI platform with clients such as Spotify, Uber, and Accenture, secured $100M in a Series B funding round— bringing their total valuation to between $500-$750M.

Writer specializes in text-generating AI models and distinguishes itself by training on non-copyrighted business writing (a huge USP when the likes of ChatGPT are facing new lawsuits weekly).

🤨 Microsoft’s AI team leaks 38TB of private data

Microsoft's AI research team mistakenly shared a link that exposed 38TB of the company's private data, including backups of employee computers with sensitive information.

The error happened when they provided a link for users to download training data, granting full access to Microsoft's Azure storage account. As for right now, Microsoft is claiming that no customer data was compromised.
