On November 6th, Tesla shareholder investors will vote on whether they should be able to invest in Elon Musk’s AI start-up, xAI, which is majority owned by Musk himself.
The proposal, submitted by shareholder Stephen Hawk, argues that as Tesla is already integrating Grok into its vehicles, investing in xAI will “secure access to advanced AI capabilities and drive shareholder value.”
If successful, it’ll be the 2nd of Musks’ companies to invest in xAI: Musk’s aerospace company, SpaceX, has committed to pouring $2B in (although many think this because it couldn’t raise funds from external investors).
Although the shareholders appear neutral at this stage, previously, they’ve argued that xAI is a rival to Tesla (Musk has often described Tesla as an AI company) and even sued Musk last year for starting rival, xAI.
Hawks’ proposal comes as Tesla faces low EV sales and a poorly received robotaxi rollout and Musk himself believes that if this proposal is successful, “the excitement around xAI and Tesla together is going to move Tesla’s valuation higher,” which will boost shareholder value and Tesla’s AI ambitions.

Fintech firm, Fiserv, was finding that traditional customer feedback surveys often gave brief, vague answers, limiting their usefulness.
The data gathered didn’t reveal real customer pain points, meaning they struggled to derive any actionable insights.
They deployed an AI feedback system that responded to customer replies intuitively and adapted follow-up questions in real time.
As a result, 40% of survey respondents provided more detailed, actionable insights compared to traditional surveys.
Your leads vanish when they’re left on hold or met with slow replies.

The team that built Alex, a tool that allows developers to use AI models within Apple’s Xcode environment, making coding for iOS and macOS more efficient, is joining OpenAI’s Codex division, to advance its AI coding tools.
OpenAI’s latest “acqui-hire” comes after Apple recently updated Xcode to enable developers to use other AI models (like ChatGPT) without needing external tools, reducing the need for external solutions, like Alex.
Although Alex will continue supporting existing users by maintaining the platform, they have confirmed that no new features will be released, and users will not be able to download it after October 1st.
Last August, three authors sued Anthropic for training its AI models on copyrighted books. A Judge said it was within its rights to train models on purchased books, but needed a new hearing for its use of pirated books.
To settle the lawsuit, Anthropic has agreed to pay $1.5B to these authors (and also destroy the original files it downloaded and any copies), which, according to the court filing, is a result “nothing short of remarkable.”
The $1.5B amount breaks down into smaller pay-outs, which are expected to be $3,000 per book, which is “believed to be the largest publicly reported recovery in the history of US copyright litigation.”
