Our Report: In its bid to make AI accessible to the masses, OpenAI has announced that users will no longer need an account or login details to use its free ChatGPT 3.5.

šŸ”‘Ā Key Points:

  • OpenAI is rolling this update out gradually, and it’s currently unknown which areas, countries, or groups will be able to sign in to ChatGPT 3.5 without an account, first.

  • You will still need an account if you want toĀ save or share chats, review chat history, or use additional features like voice conversations and custom instructions.

  • Other OpenAI products that cost money to access (like DALL-E 3) will still require an account for access, and all chats will still be used for training data (unless you opt out).

šŸ¤”Ā Why you should care: OpenAI has announced that it will also introduce ā€œslightly more restrictive content policiesā€ā€”including blocking prompts in a wider range of categories—to stop the chatbot from generating content that violates its rules.

VOICE ASSISTANTS

šŸ”ŠĀ Samsung’s ā€˜Siri’ is getting an AI upgrade

Bixby logo
  • Samsung’s VP (Won-Joon Choi) announced that Samsung is investing in "generative AI and LLM (large language model) tech" for its voice assistant—Bixby—across all devices.

  • Although it’s unknown when these updates will roll out, Samsung initially announced an AI upgrade for Bixby, during its Galaxy Unpacked conference last year.

  • Samsungs focus on AI technology comes as investors speculate whether Samsung's rival Apple can deliver its rumored generative AI updates to its voice assistant, Siri.

ā€œI require UI assistance. I need three action buttons for a card component that includes a long statement, but I don’t want the buttons to always be visible. I need a good UI that functions on both desktop and mobile since if I try to show the buttons on Hoover, that logic won’t work on mobile.ā€

INTERNAL POLITICS

šŸ‘€Ā Altman removed from OpenAI’s startup fund

  • OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, has transferred control of OpenAI’s VC fund—the OpenAI Startup Fund, which invests in early-stage AI businesses—to fund management partner, Ian Hathaway.

  • The change was made toĀ address potential conflicts of interest, as (while being OpenAI’s CEO) Altman established the fund, raised capital, and made all investment decisions.

  • Hathaway—who has been a partner since 2021—was previously overseeing the fund's accelerator program, and led investments in companies such as Harvey and Ambience Healthcare.

MUSIC

šŸŽ¼Ā Beyonce makes a stand against AI

  • In the middle of a press release to launch her new albumā€”ā€œCowboy Carterā€ā€”Beyonce made a statement against the increasing influence of AI in the music industry.

  • She expressed how important authenticity is when creating her music, and emphasized her preference for real instruments over AI tools and digital manipulation.

  • This proves her commitment to preserving the artistry of music production, at a time when AI music generators can create tracks and emulate artists’ voices, without consent.
