Deloitte admits AI errors in $440K audit
đ¨Â Our ReportÂ
Financial services giant Deloitte will partially refund the Australian government for a $440,000 AUD ($290,000 USD) 237-page report, which reviewed the Department of Employment and Workplace Relationsâ IT systems, because it contained fabricated quotes, non-existent academic references, and other AI-generated errors.
đ Key Points
Sydney University researcher, Chris Rudge, exposed 20 inaccuracies, including a fake court judgment and citations for non-existent publications, and told the media the report was âfull of fabricated references.â
Although the original report (published in July) failed to disclose that AI had been used to write it, Deloitte's revised version (published last week) does state that Microsoftâs Azure OpenAI tool was used.
Deloitte confirmed that âsome footnotes and references were incorrectâ in the original document, but maintained that the reportâs core findings were unchanged. Despite this, it has âagreed to repay the final installment.â
đ RelevanceÂ
Expert lawmakers are calling the mistakes an âinappropriate misuse of AI,â with some demanding that Deloitte refund the full amount as it misrepresented legal compliance in a government-trusted audit, which is unacceptable. This just further highlights the need for disclosure when using AI, continuous human oversight, and strict quality controls when creating public or consumer-facing content.

How AI boosted process efficiency by 15%
Logistics company, CH Robinson, couldnât respond to shipping rate quote requests quickly enough, meaning they were losing customers to rivals.
Their processes were manual and slow, and they were experiencing bottlenecks due to the volume and complexity of the rate requests.
They integrated AI tools into their quoting system, which processed the requests, interpreted details, and auto-generated rate options.
As a result, quoting times dropped to 32 seconds per request, and they were able to respond to customers 15% quicker.Â

Mattel (global toymaker, famous for brands like Barbie, Fisher-Price, and UNO) has partnered with OpenAI to pilot its new Sora-2 AI video model to create animated product concepts for its toy lines.
The collaboration will help Mattel shorten its product development processes and design cycles by turning early concepts and sketches into realistic prototype videos for feasibility checks and iterations.
For Mattel, this partnership represents a push to modernize its product pipeline and stay competitive in a crowded market. For OpenAI, it gains a high-profile commercial partner to promote Sora-2.
IBM is partnering with Anthropic to integrate Claude AI into its enterprise software products so it can deliver AI solutions with built-in security, governance, and compliance features.
As part of the partnership, IBM also collaborated with Anthropic to create a step-by-step guide designed to help large enterprises build, deploy, and maintain enterprise-grade AI agents while meeting strict standards.
Anthropic is making waves in the world of enterprise, as it also announced a deal to bring Claude to Deloitteâs global workforce, and a recent study established that enterprises prefer Claude over others, namely ChatGPT.
